My main character called Grimm travels through a world which is unknown to him. Grimm travels through not knowing that this world is really his antagonist and is there to trick and confuse him.
Through his journey he comes across puzzles which he thinks could hold some answers and could explain to him why he is there. Not known to him, these puzzles are only there to trick him.
His first trick is a draw which opens by itself. Grimm takes a look inside for an answer and sees him looking in on himself from the outside. This confuses Grimm and no answers are solved.
He sees a long corridor and proceeds down it where he encounters three cells, each containing a creature.
The second encounter is a container filled with a liquid. Grimm walks to it and plunges his hands into it but hears a noise behind him. He turns around to see a hook protruding out of the wall which de-clothes his cloak and leaves him naked and confused. As he is about to search again the liquid turns dark and murky. Not knowing what lies in the depths, Grimm is cautious in putting his hands back inside the liquid. It is another trick and the murky water travels up Grimm's arms and over his torso until he is consumed by it.
The last room holds a mysterious object on a plinth. Grimm has nothing left to lose and proceeds towards it. He steps on the plinth which triggers a landslide of pins which penetrate the object. Grimm is curious and feels the object. The pins travel up his arms which gets him so angry he picks up a knife and starts to cut into it. A light which lives inside it is released and vaporizes Grimm in a flash of bright light.
I took my idea from dark surrealist stop-motion animation where the characters seem to be lost inside their surroundings and come across weird and unnatural things on the way. Much of my inspiration came from Streets of crocodiles by identical twins The Quay Brothers and music videos from Adam Jones and Fred Stuhr(R.I.P).
My main characters design came through many different sources of inspiration and was changed a lot before the final design. The idea of the cloak came from the Grim Reaper, the Ringwraiths from the Lord of the Rings, robes and monk hoods.
i got an A* star for this.
